NOTANX HAVE BEEN CERTIFYING FREEDIVERS SINCE 2002 BASED ON THE PRINCIPLE THAT TO MASTER SKILLS THEY MUST BE PRACTICED RATHER THAN SIMPLY LEARNT.
General Qualifications
(freedivING beginners & enthusiasts)
a full DAY COURSE COVERING SAFETY BASICS & TECHNIQUES. FOLLOWING COMPLETION OF THIS COURSE, A STUDENT WILL BE ABLE TO PRACTICE SAFELY IN AN ENCLOSED ENVIRONMENT (E.G. POOL) UP TO a maximum of 5M DEEP.
All NoTanx club members are required to take a Foundation Course within their first year of membership. The course details are:
Full day course (usually Sundays, 8.30am to 5pm)
Includes 2 pool sessions, 2 ‘yin’ dry sessions (yoga, movement and breathing), and theory sessions
No experience necessary, kit hire included

AFTER COMPLETING THIS COURSE (MINIMUM 2 OPEN WATER SESSIONS), WHICH COMPLEMENT POOL TRAINING, A STUDENT WILL KNOW THE FUNDAMENTALS OF DIVING IN OPEN WATER SAFELY. UP TO A MAXimum OF 16M
Full-day course (9am - 5pm)
Includes 2 open-water dives
Suitable for those who have completed the Foundation Course; kit hire included
Cost: £160
A SERIES OF MODULES designed to help move towards advanced freediving skills
This course can be accomplished during regular lake days and club sessions or as a stand-alone course. comprised of a pool 1:1 session and 1/2 lake day.

the advanced course is perfect for freedivers looking to consolidate their understanding of freediving and work on more advanced techniques
This course is suitable for people with freediving experience (‘Blue’ club members and above, for non club members, please get in contact to discuss your experience)
This course is comprised of two elements:
The Advanced Open Water test (previously known as the '‘red test’ within NoTanx), taken at Vobster Quay or one of the deep pools.
Advanced Theory Lectures and Exam. Lectures are delivered live over the course of a full day, which concludes with the Exam

tHIS QUALIFICATION IS SUITABLE FOR DEDICATED CLUB MEMBERS LOOKING TO GET MORE INVOLVED WITH NOTANX. ASSISTANT INSTRUCTORS ARE QUALIFIED TO RUN POOL SESSIONS, AND CAN ACCESS PAID OPPORTUNITIES WITHIN THE CLUB, E.G. COURSES, TRIPS AND 1:1 sessions
The qualification is comprised of:
Advanced Pool Safety (lectures and test)
Demonstrating knowledge of NoTanx methodology, exercises and approach in club sessions (and other NoTanx events). There is no set number of hours to earn this qualification, as each individual’s journey is unique

Specialist COURSES
For those looking to attain or develop a SPECIALIST skill.
THE DARKWATER COURSE IS A SERIES OF INSTRUCTED DIVES IN SPECIALIST LOCATIONS
Designed for those who are interested in diving in caves, wrecks, or other locations where there is no direct line of sight to the surface
This course can be taken on the Wales and Kefalonia extreme locations trip.
It takes an average of 3 dives to qualify, so it’s possible (but not guaranteed) to achieve this qualification in a single NoTanx Trip.
No darkwater diving experience is required, but Open Water qualification is recommended.

A WEEKEND COURSE LEARNING how TO USE ROPES TO ASCENd & DESCEND
Delivered as a two-day stand alone course in South London, or integrated into the Kefalonia Extreme Locations Trip
In South London, you will spend 2 days getting practical, hands-on training learning how to use ropes to abseil (go down) and ascend sheer drops.
Recommended experience: None (freediving, or rope work) for South London; Open Water is recommended for the Kefalonia trip
Cost: Included in the Kefalonia trip; £160 for South London weekend (please note this does not include accommodation in South London).

THIS COURSE COVERS HOW TO USE A SLED (UNDERWATER SCOOTER)
We have 4 levels of sled driving qualification: beginner, intermediate, advanced, and instructor.
This training is offered on all of our Greek Yacht trips, Vobster Quay lake days and Marsa Alam, Egypt
There is no set number of hours for each level of qualification - each person’s journey will be different!

Small Group and private training
we offer small group and 1:1 sessions For anyone working towards specific goals, interested in improving their technique, or simply for those who prefer diving within a focused or quieter atmosphere.
1:1 and 1:2 sessions at club locations throughout the year.
These sessions are currently held at our Colchester, Kensington, Putney and Victoria club locations. Fear not if you are based elsewhere - we are looking into expanding our locations, so get in touch if you’d like to schedule a session at a different club location.
These sessions are suitable for everyone - from those who would like to try freediving for the first time in a small group, to experienced freedivers looking to hone techniques. Our sessions are either 30 minutes or 60 minutes long and can be booked directly through our app (under ‘appointments’) or website (link below).
Availability will vary with our instructors’ schedules, so if there is no availability showing on the calendar please get in touch and we’ll see if we can find someone for you!
1:1 AND small group sessions available from spring to autumn
Our Open Water sessions are held at Wraybury Dive Centre, and are 3 hours long.
These sessions are suitable for freedivers with a range of experience, from those experiencing their first time in open water through to seasoned pros. Whatever your objectives, step up your training with a 1:1 or targeted group session.
REMOTE COACHING
Remote coaching sessions can cover a variety of topics and are designed to help individuals on all aspects of their training, from the mental to the physical. These sessions can help in setting individual goals, designing individual training programmes, and monitoring progression. The sessions can be used to focus on exploring and learning specific techniques like breathing techniques for relaxation and/or breath-hold, or other dry activities like Strength & Conditioning and Yoga.
Once a session is booked, the teacher will contact the student via email with the contact details of the remote coaching session, which are usually held on zoom.
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
instructor qualification
It typically takes an average of 3 years to qualify as a NoTanx Freediving Instructor. Your knowledge and performance is assessed through club sessions, trips, events, and other NoTanx Activities. You will work with club seniors and other instructors to demonstrate knowledge of NoTanx activities, Club ethos and skills.
